WAYWARD PINES SEASON 2 EPISODE 6 REVIEWS: CITY UPON A HILL

‘Wayward Pines’ season 2, episode 6 review: Humanity’s many follies

There are some times on “Wayward Pines” when it feels like the residents are not too far away from being Keystone Cops. We’re starting to think that the Abbies are the peaceful ones here, mostly because they know to a certain extent how to get along. For example, on tonight’s episode we had examples of Abbies cooperating to help one another, while at the same time Theo and Rebecca had many an argument about her and Xander while Jason and Kerry go from romance to hostility in an incredibly short period of time. This is without mentioning Jason later trying to be puppetmaster at the hospital when it comes to who should be saved in order of importance. CJ, by and large, was the sole smart one through much of this, and did his part to tell an increasingly indignant.

‘Wayward Pines’ 2×06 review: Dying to survive

Wayward Pines season 2, episode 6, “City Upon a Hill,” saw a major setback for the survival of the human race.
Prospects of survival are looking increasingly dismal for the remnants of the human race, as the Abbies burned Wayward Pines’ crops in “City Upon a Hill,” while also killing dozens of townspeople. Not only that, it seems that the Abbies have the capacity to learn and plan; after their attack on the crops, in which they scorched the ground, they occupied the ground because they recognized its importance to the inhabitants of Wayward Pines.

‘Wayward Pines’ Season 2, Episode 6 Recap: The Abbies Are Closing In

This week’s episode of Wayward Pins opens on a community of Abbies, peacefully living their lives. A helicopter arrives and starts shooting at them, killing the majority of the community. After doing so the helicopter lands and Pilcher steps out along with the soldiers who work for him.Kerry and Jason are laying in bed together when Jason suggests they have a baby. Kerry wonders if that would be allowed and Jason assures her that it’s a great idea, especially if they were to have a son. Kerry expresses her general anxiety about not only their relationship but the things going on in Wayward Pines. Again, Jason assures her everything will be fine.

Wayward Pines Season 2 Episode 6 Review: City Upon a Hill

The situation is growing more and more dire as supplies are dwindling and food is running out.
The stakes are raised and Wayward Pines Season 2 Episode 6 claimed yet another victim.
Okay, it actually claimed more than thirty victims, but only one that matters to us.
So, first Adam saves Theresa's life, bringing her to the hospital where Theo is forced to stab her in the chest so she can breathe. Then later he decides to end it all and let her join her husband and son. He could have saved her a lot of pain and suffering by just moving the process along out in the field.

The threat of starvation becomes real on a chaotic Wayward Pines

The thing that seemingly everyone but Jason expected would happen has finally happened: The Abbies are back, and they’re pissed. CJ and the others watch as the Aberrations target anyone holding a water hose, which seems like pretty definitive evidence these supposedly dumb creatures are thinking awfully clearly. Which is what makes it all the more irritating when we get two full scenes of Jason ranting about how these things are beasts, and there’s no way they’re capable of learning. How many times is Jason going to stick his head in the sand and be wrong? More importantly, how dumb do you have to be to look at all the available facts and still willfully ignore the obvious? Jason has apparently mistaken Kerry’s demand that he act like “the man born to lead” for “act like the man born to deny what’s staring you in the face.”

'Wayward Pines' Recap: Who Are the Real Monsters?

The title "City Upon A Hill" insinuates a genesis tale is on the way, but that's egregiously misleading. Not much about Pilcher's Eden becomes clear in Wayward Pines' sixth episode, but the inferences and visuals are chilling enough to jar even the most hardened stomach. Something wicked (or maybe simply survivalist) is brewing among the Abbies, but once again the episode leaves us with more questions than answers. Not a judgement, just an observation. Shyamalan manages to keep a stranglehold on his secrets while tantalizing the hell out of us without boring us into giving up.

The Abbies return, and all hell breaks loose in 'paradise'

Abbies aren’t exactly simple-minded creatures living outside the fence, it turns out. This episode, they show they’re capable of strategizing, of outsmarting humans, and of creepily staring at Megan (Hope Davis) until even she freaks out at the sight. And, as we see in the opening scene, they’re a quiet community in the woods when humans aren’t interfering: Before Pilcher’s helicopter comes to shoot them dead, they’re docile — and even after Pilcher’s massacre, two Abbies help carry an injured comrade out of the woods. They’re cooperating to save one another!
