This comes from the creator of the walking dead, Robert Kirkman and so
it was expected to be good and surely the pilot didn’t disappoint. Though it wasn’t
really called ‘pilot’ but rather ‘A Darkness Surrounds Him.’
The series (at least the first episode) rotates around Kyle Barnes,
a man who is an outcast in one way or the other, and who has a tragic past, and
present. As a child his possessed mother abused him and it seems the demons
which possessed her follow him everywhere and have now possessed a boy in town.
His foster it seems is the only person who loves him and is trying to get him
out of the house in which he has been holed up in for the past five months. We
also discover that he has a daughter and an ex-wife who for some reason he can
never go see again.
Then there is the town priest, Reverend Anderson who is the only one who really
knows the demons exist and is trying very hard to exorcise the demon out of the
boy. The episode expertly uses flashbacks to tell us more about Kyle and we
discover that when he was a kid his tears hurt his possessed mother and that it
was his ex-wife who was possessed and hurt his daughter, something that he is
blamed for.
When Kyle hears about the possessed boy, he goes to visit
(though he doesn’t believe demons exist at this point) but what he experiences
in there gives him a new perspective.
A great start for a
series which is different from most and keeps the viewer hooked from the start.
I surely can’t wait for what happens in the next episode.
Episode 2 airs on
