FEED THE BEAST EPISODE 2 RECAP: NOT QUITE RIGHT

Feed the beast improved on its second outing, but still didn’t get it right. The series seems a good idea at first but then it just gets silly at times. With its exaggerated characters.

The show’s best part is Tommy Jr. (TJ), a boy who hasn’t said a word since his mother died. The delight on his face when cooking makes the kitchen scenes better than they deserve to be. One thing is that the bully at school seems old enough to get that this kid has been through enough but just doesn’t stop bullying TJ.
Tommy is finally open to the prospect of opening a restaurant and he shows this by quitting his job as a wine rep (which wasn’t going so well for him anyway).  The ‘Tooth Fairy’, crime boss Woichik gives Dion 48 hours to show a signed contract from an investor.

Dion again asks Tommy to meet with Aidan, his father. Tommy and his father are not on very good terms and they emphasize this with the ‘son’ in ‘Moran & Son’ rubbed out.
When Tommy and Dion go out to meet Tommy, he is not so enthusiastic but he accepts to do some tasting of the food they plan to prepare in the restaurant. Aidan also doesn’t like the food that much but he invests anyway (doesn’t want to pass on the chance of making more money) though he insists on weekly visits from TJ as part of the deal. Tommy doesn’t like it but TJ wants to do it (but not before he has saw a pistol stuffed in his Grandfather’s sock). TJ also seemed a little bit too interested in Aidan's guns during his visit to house, hopefully, he is not getting any ideas.
Tommy insists on making someone look over the contract and Dion says he knows that person. Dion goes by his lawyer’s place and she sends him away for the second time saying she has someone in. It is then revealed that Gordiano is her father (the detective who is obsessed with taking down the Tooth Fairy and wants to use Dion to do it).
Another thing which the show needs to address is Pilar and her relationship with Tommy. Too little has been shown about her other than that she like Tommy and seems maybe too comfortable lying (in a way) in order to talk to him.
At the end of the episode ends when Tommy notices the bruises on TJ and without much further investigation confronts and attacks his dad. But he ends up being beaten by a man in a wheelchair and a gun at his head
Verdict: The show still needs a lot of work. Despite the simplicity of the idea, it becomes unbelievable at times, like they are trying too hard, or maybe not hard enough. David Schwimmer is though perfect in his role as Tommy and the most realistic part of the show. It is not so easy for TV shows to survive these days and Feed The Beast needs a lot of improvements for this to happen.
