After Disney's previous run of box office hits, one may be forgiven for thinking that Disney is prone the box office bombs but with their latest release, it seems that is not the case. Disney's run includes Zootopia, The Jungle Book and Captain America:Civil War, and considering Alice through the looking glass predecessor's success, it should have continued the trend. Alice Through the looking glass had its US release on May 27, 2016 and grossed just $34.2m on its Fri-Mon run. That is less than the amount Alice in wonderland earned on its opening day alone.
The movie had very poor critic reviews but the unforeseen stumbling block was Johnny Depp's legal problems. Prior to the release of the movie, his wife Amber Heard filed for divorce and accused him of abuse. The affected the movie for example where parents might not want their kids watching a movie starring him.
Despite all this, the movie is doing okay internationally(leaving out the US) making $65 million from 80 countries.
Disney's next cinema outings come in the form of Finding Dory and Steven Spielbergs' The BFG which are both expected to do well. Pete's Dragon also comes out in August.
Synopsis: Alice returns to the whimsical world of Wonderland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter.
Alice (Mia Wasikowska) first travelled to underland as a child. Now as she approaches adulthood she struggles with balancing the sense of curiosity passed down from her father and conforming to other people's expectations.
Time (Sacha Baron Cohen) is a magical being who sits on a black throne in a castle of eternity. He has one human hand and one mechanical hand and possesses the Chronosphere, a glowing, spinning, metallic sphere inside the chamber of the Grand Clock that powers all time.
Hatter Tarrant Hightopp is better known as the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp). When Alice returns to underland, she finds the Hatter more mad than usual.
Iracebeth, the Red Queen and former monarch of Underland (Helena Bonham Carter) ruled with tyranny, malice and an extremely short temper. She despises her younger sibling, Mirana.
Mirana, the White Queen (Anne Hathaway) is the mild mannered and kind younger sister to the spiteful Red Queen.

One might also say that the kids who enjoyed the first movie are all grown up now and are interested in other kinds of movies. The first movie also came out when 3D was new, expensive and everybody wanted to see it but now people only pay for 3D when it's worth it.#AliceThroughTheLookingGlass is shaping up to be one of the year's biggest bombs https://t.co/8ZbGy5TDqW pic.twitter.com/mC0GBMtgng— Variety (@Variety) May 31, 2016
